I just managed to walk 100 yards at a reasonable pace without breaking into a sweat. I feel this is some kind of victory... what a life I have!
I am loving Vienna's trams. They're so cute with their little wooden seats.
I just went past a kebab shop called 'McDoners' - very clever.
I also just went past a multi coloured car. It had one red door, one green door and a yellow bonnet. The back was silver but I guess you cant have everything.
Unfortunately, like Budapest, alot of Vienna's main attractions were being worked on.
I got off the U-bahn at the Rathaus stop and wandered around the side of it. The back was covered up and the front was scaffolded off. I got chatting to a girl who was working as a steward for the building project and she told me they were building a stage for the film festival. We chatted for a bit before I headed off towards Parlament.
Parlament, Vienna, although in my opinion, was not as impressive as Parlament, Budapest, it is still a lovely building. I stopped for photos, stuck my hands in the fountain and pressed on to my main destination- Hofburg.
The Hofburg palace was a little disappointing for me although it was a really beautiful building. It was very touristy and full of musuems about random things that aren't really my cup of tea.
I came out of the palace, hopped on the U - bahn and wizzed off to Stephansplatz to see the cathedral. I had originally considered getting a horse and carriage thing there but the smell of fresh horse poo was putting me off.
When I got there I went inside and sat down for a quiet 5 minutes. There was a service going on behind some irons bars whilst all us tourists ( although I prefer to think of myself as an intrepid explorer) took photos of them. The people attending must have felt like animals in a zoo.
My whole 'eat loads of breakfast and not have lunch' thing didn't go very well. As I write this I am sitting in a bakery/cafe after getting really hungry. Although a chocolate croissant isn't going to set me back too much. It was a very good chocolate croissant too - it wasn't a pain au chocolate, it was a normal croissant filled with chocolate. They had some massive slices of swiss roll but, as with most beautiful looking cakes, they probably look better than they taste.
Note: because of wifi issues (I.e there was none) I couldn't post this earlier. But as you can probably tell from the title, this was about this morning!
