Day 2 be continued - cheesy rock

As I'm sitting, watching the bees (see photo), I am pondering what I have learnt today about Budapest. One, it is too hot to do anything but cower in the shade and two,  road users get along much better than in Britain.

I have also learnt something about travelling. It helps to know a few basic words of the language of the country you are in to avoid confusion and save yourself the hassle of buying something which is not what you thought.
I went into a shop to get a large bottle of water that I thought would be useful for days like today (see earlier post if youre clueless). I picked one up and looked at the label, reading something that looked vaguely like 'sans' gas. I was however mistaken as I discovered when I opened the lid and it fizzed up and over my leg.

The second mistake I made wasn't really language based but could probably have been prevented with some pre-purchase squishing.
I picked up what I thought was a cheesy baton for my dinner. When I came to rip abit of, I found myself struggling against what felt like a metal shell. I almost broke my tooth biting in to it. It wasn't even very nice. And the worst thing is i have to have it for breakfast and lunch too until its gone.

I have spent way too much today. I will have to compensate tomorrow by not eating anything and only drinking tap water. I managed to find a blindfold at great expense after traipsing round several shops that closely resembled pound land.
I am just hoping the hostel has free butter as I am too tight to buy any and it might improve the cheesy rock I have for dinner that might not even be cheesy - I'm still undecided. I want to go and sit by the river but there is absolutely no shade so instead I'm sitting next to some fat bloke on a random shopping street. He is kindly resting his uncovered belly on his knees for all the world to see.

I have crumbs down my bra, which in case you were wondering is not pleasant. Thats what you get for buying a cheesy rock without pre-purchase squishing. Lesson learnt. Squish first.

  1. I am giggling while pondering the cheesy metal baton and the kind belly resting and hope the latter provided some shade!
    squishing lesson learnt...
but if it's any consolation I did a 3 hour crash course in hungarian on arrival in Budapest last year and remembered not a word 2 hours later. it is a very, very tricky lingo!

  2. Only just seen the comments after Leila pointed them out to me! Hungarian is very tricky although I have learnt to recognise open.
